Several organizations are mobilizing in the wake of Florida’s rising political tide.  The Florida Restoration of Rights Commission, as the primary force that got Amendment 4 on the midterm ballot and subsequently passed, is working diligently to ensure that ex-offenders who have paid their debt to society and whose backgrounds do not include violent or sex-related crimes will be able to cast their votes in the 2020 elections.   The League of Women Voters continues its efforts to register new voters and to ensure that past voters’ registration information is accurate. Other groups are holding workshops and seminars designed to inform and empower anyone seeking to increase their levels of understanding and participation in local, state and national political processes.  On July 27, 2019, from 1-4:30 pm, Better Angels will host a workshop bringing Republican and Democratic citizens together for an afternoon of conversations.  With a focus on listening and reflecting, their goals include promoting a better understanding of the experiences and beliefs of those whose political leanings differ and gaining insights to help heal the increasing polarization in our communities and nation.  To learn more about Better Angels, this and other Red/Blue Workshops, and to register as a participant visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/can-we-bridge-the-political-div.  Anyone who signs up will be contacted directly by the organizers via telephone call or email and given the exact meeting location.

Take time out to support those who are doing the work and if you haven’t gotten caught up in Florida politics, there’s no time like the present.
